Finca La Esperanza, located in the lush highlands of Huila, Colombia, has been under the dedicated care of Hertson Bernal since 2006. Together with his brother Jesús, Hertson began transforming an abandoned farm into a model for sustainable specialty coffee production, driven by the vision of building something lasting for their families and local community.

From rebuilding infrastructure to replanting the land with high-performing varieties such as Cenicafé 1, Hertson has breathed new life into La Esperanza. Today, the farm stands as a strong example of resilience, quality, and community-driven development, producing coffees with exceptional cup profiles and full traceability.


About the Variety, Cenicafé 1

Cenicafé 1 is a modern Arabica cultivar developed by Colombia’s National Coffee Research Center, Cenicafé. Designed for resistance to coffee leaf rust and adapted for medium to high elevations, this variety combines agronomic strength with outstanding sensory potential.

In the cup, Cenicafé 1 delivers vivid acidity, floral complexity, layered fruit sweetness, and a silky texture. These characteristics are beautifully expressed in Hertson Bernal’s lot, enhanced by the natural anaerobic process.
