The coffee blend guide

What is a coffee blend?

We assume the name itself is clear enough that you can understand what a coffee blend is. However, its exact definition is: mixing two or more coffees. They can be of different varieties, countries, or regions. The aim is to analyze the best qualities of each one and mixing them to create a balanced, delightful, and consistent taste and aromatic profile.

Main steps:

  1. For starters, it's a good idea to think about the coffees you'll mix when creating your blend. Although there is a lot of information indicating which coffees are most preferred in blends, we believe this is strictly individual. It is more important to answer yourself an important question: "What do my clients like?". There is so much variety that helps you come up with your unique blend to intrigue drink lovers. However, if you are not a specialist who is familiar in detail with the various coffees, taste profiles, and notes, it is advisable to turn to one who will certainly help and guide you in the right way.
  2. It would be good to know what price range you are looking for. If you want your blend to be at a higher price, we advise you to emphasize the higher quality of Arabica and Robusta. Do not rule out the possibility of creating several different apertures to meet the needs and desires of most of your customers.
  3. There are various blends, including for example 70% Arabica and 30% Robusta or 50/50. They can also be 100% Arabica. Keeping in mind mainly Bulgarian consumers prefer lower acidity and dense body, you should carefully consider the variations in percentages.
  4. We recommend that you contact a professional roaster to discuss another important step. Namely, how the coffee from your blend will be mixed and roasted. In general, there are two options - the coffees are mixed in advance and then roasted together. The positive thing about this is that it saves time and electricity. The second option is: first, the coffees are roasted separately, and only then mixed. Perhaps this is the more common approach, as Arabica and Robusta coffees require individual attention. But of course, this is again entirely up to you. For example, our certified roaster prepares our blend Espresso Doro together before roasting, because the coffees inside allow that.  And Espresso Crema and Espresso Rosso - individually as each of the different coffees for the mixtures is roasted separately and only then combined. In that way, we make sure that the roasting process has its optimal quality.
