INFORMATION:

This 9.3-hectare farm (23 acres) is at an average altitude of 1,550 meters above sea level and has around 18,250 trees.

When Horqueta 1 was acquired in June 2015, it was one of the first farms we acquired as mainly “raw land” and we engineered the entire planting system from scratch.

We planted a diverse range of varietals belonging to the Arabica species. Starting with Geisha, Typica, and Pacamara as the main varietals, and more recently, in 2019 we incorporated the varietal San Ramon.

At this farm, we have designed and built housing, complete with electricity, running water, and gas stoves, for our farmworkers and their families.

Due to its strategic location, we have also built a satellite nursery that will supply seedlings to the whole Horqueta region. With this nursery, we started to plant our seeds in biodegradable pellets.

These pellets are a medium and container in a single package, composed of Canadian peat and a permeable net that allows excellent root development and reduces stress in the early stages of cultivation. These units are directly transplanted to the farms where they decompose very quickly, leaving zero waste.

Based on the topography of this farm and the availability of a permanent source of water (a river within Horqueta 1 Farm), our team designed and implemented a hydraulic ram to supply the farmers and their families living in the farms with a constant source of water.

If you want to check out the farm on Google Earth, it is located in the following coordinates (8.819257, -82.455771)
