Background

It might be true that home coffee roasting cannot be the same as roasting with a professional machine. However, there are few positives points about this. It could be cheaper to buy 1 kg of green coffee Arabica and roast it yourself than to buy the ready roasted coffee. The third point is the fact that you learn more about the coffee by roasting it.

Based on this, and to increase the enjoyment, we have thought about some advice to be considered.

Roasting Process

Roasting coffee is divided into a few stages that need to be monitored to control the process. Please consider this as basic information that might be helpful to understand a little bit better about the home coffee roasting. However, it is a part of coffee that demands practice, experience, and education to acknowledge how roasting works and master it.

  • The first stage: register the temperature at which the coffee is charged into the roasting device. For those machines who cannot measure it, we can skip this part.
  • The second stage: measure the time that the coffee needs to turn yellow or light cream color.
  • The third stage: time how long takes from the yellow coffee till the first crack
  • The fourth stage: again register the time between the first crack starts till coffee starts being cooled down
